The aluminum is here! Checker Machine Inc was nice enough to give us a great deal on the materials and they arrived in just two days! Total came out to be $398, which is good news because that's 100 dollars less than I expected. We should have enough to purchase the drivetrain components to get a rolling chassis with the $1000. Fabrication can begin next week. I will try to get a good majority of the frame cut this weekend and have it sent to be welded next week. Will keep posted.
As you can see, my machine shop is now fully equipped with a Northern Industrial metal cutting bandsaw and a Craftsmen drill press that I assembled last week. The assembly for the bandsaw was a bit more difficult because the instruction manual simply gave me a diagram where the drill press manual gave full instructions. It was no problem though and they work very well.
I received a product called Neverwet, which is a hydrophobic compound that essentially repels liquids. I am planning to coat the electronics that are exposed to the elements along with the outer shell of the robot. It works remarkably well. Check out the video in the link below
We are having issues with the Beaglebone Black. The Ubuntu image is not booting up from the SD card. We've tried multiple images and SD cards and have determined there is a problem with the SD Card receptacle. We've decided to run the BBB on a Linux distribution image of Angstrom, which is fully supported by Beaglebone.
The Indiegogo campaign is over. We raised a total of $580, mainly from family members. I'm a bit disappointed with the outcome, but the money raised accounted for the equipment.
